MOV compressor
Shrink a MOV from your iPhone, Mac screen recorder or camera. You get a compact MP4 that opens on Windows, Android and every chat app.
What is a MOV file?
MOV is Apple's QuickTime container. iPhones and Macs save video as MOV, usually with H.264 or HEVC (H.265) video inside. MP4 was derived from the same design, so the content converts cleanly.
Why MOV files get big, and how this shrinks them
iPhone clips are recorded at high bitrates, and screen recordings can be huge at Retina resolution. Re-encoding to H.264 at a sharing bitrate (and often 1080p or 720p) shrinks them a lot; the tool shows the real result.
Tips for MOV
- Screen recordings compress very well: most of the screen does not change from frame to frame.
- If the recipient uses Windows or an older Android phone, keep H.264 output; HEVC may not play there.
- Only need a format change? Use MOV to MP4, which copies the video without re-encoding.
Need an exact size? Try 20 MB, 25 MB or the bitrate calculator.

Questions people ask
How do I compress a MOV file?
Drop it in the tool above, pick a target size (for example 19 MB for Discord or 23 MB for Gmail) and press Squeeze it. The result is an MP4 you can download straight away.
Will the output still be MOV?
No, the output is MP4 (or WebM if you choose VP9). MP4 holds the same video codecs, plays more widely and is accepted by more upload forms.
Why can't my browser open a ProRes MOV?
Most browsers can't decode ProRes. The FFmpeg fallback may still read it on a computer; otherwise export H.264 or HEVC from your editing app first.
