Discord video compressor
Clipped something great and Discord said the file is too large? Pick your plan below, and SqueezeVideos will fit the clip under the limit right here in your browser.
Free limit is now 20 MB. Discord doubled it from 10 MB on 13 August 2026. Checked 27 September 2026.

How long a clip fits in 20 MB?
Roughly, with 96 kbps audio: about 30 seconds keeps 1080p30 comfortable, about a minute suits 720p, and two minutes pushes you to 480p. Past three minutes, trimming or removing the sound matters more than any setting. Try your own numbers:
Where do the megabytes go?
A target size is a fixed pile of bits. Move the sliders and watch the video's share shrink.
2,329 kbps
for the picture, out of 2,533 kbps total (128 kbps audio, ~3% container overhead)
Bits per pixel per frame: 0.019
Starved. Expect smeared blocks, especially in fast motion. Drop the resolution or frame rate.
Sharpest safe choice here: 720p at 30 fps.
Tips for sharper Discord clips
- Trim to the moment. The first 20 seconds of walking to the fight cost as many bits as the fight.
- 30 fps is plenty in chat. Discord embeds play fine at 30 fps, and it frees up bits for detail.
- Stay on H.264 for embeds. Every Discord client plays it. H.265 files may not preview inline for friends on some browsers.
- Mute the mic chatter if it's not the point; that returns ~96 kbps to the picture.
Questions people ask
What is Discord's file size limit right now?
As of 27 September 2026: 20 MB per file on a free account (raised from 10 MB on 13 August 2026), 50 MB with Nitro Basic and 500 MB with Nitro. Server boosts can raise the limit inside a boosted server. Discord has changed this number several times, so check its Help Center if an upload is rejected.
Why aim for 19 MB instead of exactly 20 MB?
Container overhead and the difference between megabytes (1,000,000 bytes) and mebibytes (1,048,576 bytes) mean a file that is "20 MB" in one app can read slightly differently in another. A small margin avoids the "file too large" error.
Do I still need to compress for the old 8 MB or 10 MB limits?
Not for Discord uploads on current apps. Some bots, webhooks and older clients may still apply smaller caps, which is why the 8 MB and 10 MB target pages are still here.
Does Discord compress videos itself?
Discord's mobile apps can compress media before sending, but since August 2026 the size limit is checked on the original file, before that compression. Shrinking it yourself first keeps you in control of resolution and quality.
What settings look best for a gameplay clip?
For a clip under about 40 seconds, 1080p at 30 fps usually fits in 19 MB with H.264. Longer clips look cleaner at 720p than as a blocky 1080p. Dropping 60 fps to 30 fps roughly halves the bits each second of motion needs. Trimming to the actual highlight helps most.
